Event: The 328th Anniversary of Monmouth’s Execution

MonmouthTaunton

This will be an informal meetup to commemorate the tragic execution of James Scott, Duke of Monmouth and Buccleuch on the 15th of July, 1685. We will meet by the plaque between Tower Hill Tube Station and The Liberty Bounds pub. This is generally the area upon which his execution took place. There will be readings of excerpts from various historical sources about the execution and also an excerpt from His Last Mistress. Depending on turnout, we can afterwards go to the Tower (Monmouth is buried inside the Tower’s Chapel, and I need to contact the Tower to see if we can pay our respects to him there) or have drinks at the pub (and sorry, I can’t buy them all!).

You must either RSVP via my Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/events/474033776005919/ or you must contact me via “Quill & Ink”. I need to know numbers, that’s why this is important. I will probably be wearing my red 1680s dress on the day. Hopefully, we will have good weather! (I won’t hold my breath!)…
