François Couperin, also known as Couperin le Grand, French Baroque composer, was born on this day the 10th of November, 1668 (New Style), in Paris, France.
I was first exposed to Couperin’s music when I was a little girl, listening to the radio programme, Sunday Baroque. Later, when I had moved out of America, I listened to Baroque radio stations from around the world, and Couperin is regularly played composer.
Here is one of my favourite pieces by Couperin, which was included in the soundtrack to Tous Les Matins du Monde, which I wrote about several days ago. This is le “Troisième Leçon De Ténèbres À 2 Voix” which has an additional delight in the form of it’s cover image which is Olivia Hussey as Juliet from Franco Zeffirelli’s Romeo & Juliet (one of my favourite films):
Breathtaking, isn’t it? Now, the next piece was used in Sofia Coppola’s film “Marie Antoinette” and is entitled. “Les Barricades Mysterieuses.”
I hope you enjoyed the selections above. Have a lovely day!
